What Are My Essentials?

Let’s break it down. If we are thinking about a wardrobe that allows you to seamlessly be dressed and out the door in a matter of minutes, the key word here is cohesion. Think of each article within your wardrobe as a piece of a jigsaw puzzle. How does each piece fit together to tell the larger story of your personal style? It’s integral to have a solid foundation of essentials to work up from.

We can begin this by thinking about the categories of pieces an essential closet needs: t-shirts, shirts/blouses, knitwear, trousers, denim, intimates, shoes, jackets, outerwear and accessories. It can seem quite daunting to look at a long list like this but I assure you, you already have many of these things. These are also pieces that you’ll want to invest wisely in to ensure quality and longevity. This will save you money in the long run and you’ll be doing your part to reduce textile waste as well!

Something fun to keep in mind when you’re establishing your essentials is to work in a specific color palette. Think of three to five colors that you enjoy wearing, look good on your complexion, and also work blended together. This will be your core color palette that will inform the rest of your purchases moving forward. Keep in mind, we can always introduce more color later but setting up these foundations is paramount to building the effortless wardrobe.

In every woman’s wardrobe it is imperative to have the “little black dress”. This is your go to piece when everything else just doesn’t quite work out. Just because it’s called “little” doesn’t mean it actually has to be. Keep in mind the silhouette that best suits you. If a body-con, midi length knit dress looks best, work with that. If a mini a-line is the shape for you, then that’s what you want. This is the dress that always makes you feel sexy and nearly invincible when you put it on.
